You probably remember tahini having a heavy nutty and bitter taste. That is true, of course, but you can still make sweet dishes with it! Plus, tahini adds to your sweet morning porridge the right consistency!
By adding a little bit of date syrup or agave syrup, your porridge will become significantly sweeter and loses a slightly nutty taste.
If you wish to make your porridge gluten-free, use some of the great gluten-free rolled oats. For milk, I personally like to cook with almond or macadamia milk, but any other plant-based milk is good!
Sweet Tahini Porridge
Ingredients
To make porridge:
- 2/3 cup rolled oats
- 1 1/4 cup plant-based milk
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cardamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 2 tsp date or agave syrup
Toppings
- fresh or frozen berries
- peanut butter (runny)
- shredded coconut
Instructions
- In a saucepan bring to boil milk and oats. Add all the spices and cook for 7-8 minutes or until the porridge thickens. Remove from heat.
- Add tahini, constantly stirring. Mix it with date or agave syrup.
- Add your toppings. If you use frozen berries, heat them up in a microwave for a little bit until they release their juices.
- Enjoy!
