Tofu and tempeh are the greatest meat substitutes ever. In a vegan diet, they are absolutely necessary because they are very rich in proteins. Moreover, they are among the most versatile vegan ingredients. You can create an absolute magic with them! You can grill, roast or fry them. You can add them to almost every kind of dish.
I cannot live without tofu. I am a true tofu lover. Therefore, I really fell in love with these super spicy kebabs, made of grilled tofu and vegetables. I also like spicy food and almost always add chili.
If you like spicy food and tofu, these kebabs will be the best option for you. They are a great delicious combination of both. But remember I warned you – these kebabs, in fact, are very hot!

Serving: 4 (8 pieces)
Preparation time: 20 min + marinate overnight
Cooking time: 30 min
Ingredients:
400 g tofu, cut into cubes
2 red onions, cut into larger pieces
1 eggplant, cut into cubes
2 red capsicums, cut into larger pieces
2 zucchinis, cut into cubes
For Spicy Marinade:
4 small shallots, chopped finely
1 onion, chopped finely
4 garlic cloves, peeled
3 red chili peppers, chopped
2 teaspoons mixed spice (nutmeg + cinnamon)
3 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoon tamari sauce
1-2 tablespoons lime juice
Instruction:
- Start with marinade: Blend shallots, garlic, onion, chili peppers and all the spice until you get a nice smooth paste. Then add olive oil, sugar, tamari sauce and 1 tablespoon lime juice. Taste it. If you prefer paste being sourer, then add another tablespoon lime juice. Transfer marinade in a container, cover it with lit and leave in a fridge overnight.
- Shred tofu, eggplant, onion, capsicum, and zucchini in wooden skewers. Place skewers onto an aluminum foil. Pour half of the marinade over the skewers. You can put skewers into a fridge and let them marinate for another 3-4 hours or you can put them straight to the oven.
- Preheat a barbecue plate for 180 °C. Barbecue kebabs for about 10 minutes each side or until getting a brown colour. Pour the rest of the marinade and leave it in the oven for 5 minutes.
- Serve kebabs with steamed brown rice or green salad.
- For better taste, you can use lime juice from 1 lime.
