If you think that black beans are good only for Mexican dishes or stew, think again. Black beans make an epic chocolate dairy-free drink that tastes truly amazing!
Jump to RecipePrint RecipeI honestly love black beans. I eat them raw, I eat them cooked, I eat them straight from a can. And to be completely frank, I only knew how to use them for savoury, mostly Mexican-style dishes.
But that has changed once I baked vegan brownies made of black beans (a recipe for the brownies is coming soon, stay tuned)! Oh gosh, those brownies were so fantastic. They were so smooth, fluffy, and not overwhelmingly sweet like chocolate brownies. So win-win!
Talking about chocolate, black beans go so well with chocolate or cocoa. Maybe because they are both dark? Who knows. However, this is the reason why I tried to incorporate black beans into a sweet cocoa drink.
The result? SO DE-LI-CI-OUS black bean and cocoa drink!!
Why do you want to eat black beans? Because they are:
- super-rich in folate, fibre (about 15g in a can of cooked beans!), copper, and vitamin B1
- incredible plant-based source of protein (15g in a can of cooked beans)
- full of resistant starch that benefits our lower digestion track. This leads to a reduced risk of colorectal cancer
- helpful for weight loss
- great regulators or high blood pressure and insulin levels
- lowing a risk of heart diseases
- helpers in maintaining a good bone health
To make this black bean and cocoa drink, you should use raw cocoa powder and your favourite soy-free plant-based milk. Click here for instructions on how to make plant-based milk at home.
